We are looking for a PhD Candidate in African Swine Fever (ASF) Immunology and Vaccinology to join the Animal Health Program team, based in IRTA-CReSA (Bellaterra, Barcelona, Spain). The selected candidate will join the ASF Research Group and will develop a PhD project within a national research project funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI). The research activities will focus on the immunology and vaccinology of ASF, contributing to the development and evaluation of innovative vaccination strategies and to the understanding of protective immune responses against ASF virus infection. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment combining immunology, microbiology, virology and vaccinology.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the scientific and technical activities of the African swine fever research line.

• Participate in the design, planning and execution of experimental studies related to ASF immunology and vaccinology.

• Perform laboratory work including immunological, molecular and virological techniques.

• Collect, organize and analyse experimental data.

• Conduct literature reviews and stay updated on advances in ASF research.

• Contribute to the preparation of scientific reports, conference communications and peer-reviewed publications.

• Collaborate with other researchers and actively contribute to teamwork and research discussions.

• Participate in training activities associated with the doctoral programme.

Required qualifications and experience

• Degree in, Biology, Biotechnology, Veterinary Medicine, Biomedicine, Microbiology or related Life Sciences disciplines.

• Master's degree in Immunology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Animal Health or a related field, or fulfilment of the academic requirements to access a doctoral programme in Spain.

• Applicants must not already hold a doctoral degree (PhD)

• Demonstrated interest in vaccinology immunology and infectious disease research.

• Knowledge of laboratory techniques applicable to biological and biomedical research.

• Good command of spoken and written English.

• Strong teamwork skills, ability to adapt to multidisciplinary environments and a focus on professional growth and development.

• Motivation, scientific curiosity and commitment to research excellence.

Desirable requirements

• Previous experience in immunology, microbiology, vaccinology or infectious disease research.

• Familiarity with biosafety procedures and laboratory work in containment facilities (BSL-3 experience will be positively valued).

• Previous training in vaccinology, immunology or host-pathogen interactions.

• Knowledge of immunological and molecular biology techniques such as ELISA, PCR and related methodologies.

• International research or training experience.

• Experience in scientific communication and presentation of results.

• Experience in data analysis and scientific writing.

• Knowledge of Catalan and/or Spanish.

• Ability to work independently while maintaining effective collaboration within a research team.

La persona seleccionada s'incorporarà al Grup de Recerca en Pesta Porcina Africana (PPA) i desenvoluparà la seva tesi doctoral en el marc d'un projecte nacional de recerca finançat per l'Agència Estatal de Recerca (AEI). Les activitats de recerca se centraran en la immunologia i la vacunologia de la PPA, contribuint al desenvolupament i l'avaluació d'estratègies innovadores de vacunació, així com a la comprensió de les respostes immunitàries protectores davant la infecció pel virus de la pesta porcina africana. Funcions i responsabilitats:

• Contribuir a les activitats científiques i tècniques de la línia de recerca en pesta porcina africana (PPA).

• Participar en el disseny, la planificació i l'execució d'estudis experimentals relacionats amb la immunologia i la vacunologia de la PPA.

• Dur a terme treball de laboratori mitjançant tècniques immunològiques, moleculars i virològiques.

• Recollir, organitzar i analitzar dades experimentals.

• Realitzar revisions bibliogràfiques i mantenir-se al dia dels avenços en la recerca sobre la PPA.

• Contribuir a la preparació d'informes científics, comunicacions a congressos i publicacions en revistes científiques amb revisió per parells.

• Col·laborar amb altres investigadors i participar activament en el treball en equip i en les discussions científiques.

• Participar en les activitats formatives associades al programa de doctorat.

Requisits i experiència:

• Grau en Biologia, Biotecnologia, Veterinària, Biomedicina, Microbiologia o altres disciplines afins de les ciències de la vida.

• Màster en Immunologia, Microbiologia, Biotecnologia, Sanitat Animal o un àmbit relacionat, o bé complir els requisits acadèmics per accedir a un programa de doctorat a Espanya.

• Les persones candidates no poden estar en possessió d'un títol de doctorat (PhD).

• Interès demostrat en la recerca en vacunologia, immunologia i malalties infeccioses.

• Coneixements de tècniques de laboratori aplicables a la recerca biològica i biomèdica.

• Bon domini de l'anglès, tant oral com escrit.

• Capacitat per treballar en equip, adaptació a entorns multidisciplinaris i orientació al creixement i al desenvolupament professional.

• Motivació, curiositat científica i compromís amb l'excel·lència en la recerca.

Mèrtis addicionals

• Experiència prèvia en recerca en immunologia, microbiologia, vacunologia o malalties infeccioses.

• Familiaritat amb els procediments de bioseguretat i el treball de laboratori en instal·lacions de contenció biològica (es valorarà positivament l'experiència en laboratoris de nivell de bioseguretat 3, BSL-3).

• Formació prèvia en vacunologia, immunologia o interaccions hoste-patogen.

• Coneixements de tècniques immunològiques i de biologia molecular, com ara ELISA, PCR i altres metodologies relacionades.

• Experiència internacional en recerca o formació.

• Experiència en comunicació científica i presentació de resultats.
