We are currently seeking a PhD candidate to join the Tuberculosis Research Line of the Animal Health Program, based at IRTA-CReSA (Bellaterra, Barcelona). We are looking for candidates with a background in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Veterinary Medicine or other related life sciences disciplines, with good level of English to undertake a PhD thesis in our laboratory.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work in a high-quality research environment with state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced in vitro platforms and BSL-3 animal experimentation facilities and laboratories. The PhD project will contribute to research activities focused on the development and evaluation of tuberculosis vaccine candidates using in vitro platforms and large-animal models to assess immunogenicity and protective efficacy. It is a national research project funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI).

Key researchers for the position: Dr. Bernat Pérez de Val, Principal Investigator, Tuberculosis Research Line (Primary Supervisor).

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the scientific and technical activities of the Tuberculosis Research Line, conducted under appropriate biosafety conditions, including work in BSL-3 facilities after completion of the required training.

• Coordinate and perform experimental work to achieve the milestones of the research project associated with the candidate's PhD.

• Generate, analyse and interpret scientific data, and contribute to the research outputs of the group, including scientific publications.

• Present research findings at internal seminars and at national and international scientific conferences.

• Participate actively in scientific discussions, group meetings and collaborative research activities.

• Foster teamwork and contribute to a collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment.

Required qualifications and experience

• A Master’s Degree in life sciences or a Degree in Veterinary Medicine.

• Applicants must not already hold a doctoral degree (PhD)

• Proficiency in English

• Strong teamwork skills, ability to adapt to multidisciplinary environments and a focus on professional growth and development.

Desirable requirements

• Laboratory experience in immunology, microbiology and/or molecular biology techniques

• Experience with in vivo animal experimentation

• Experience or willingness to work in BSL-3 facilities.

• Knowledge of statistics and/or bioinformatics

• Knowledge of Catalan and/or Spanish

El projecte de doctorat contribuirà a activitats de recerca centrades en el desenvolupament i l'avaluació de candidats vacunals contra la tuberculosi mitjançant plataformes in vitro i models animals de gran mida per avaluar-ne la immunogenicitat i l'eficàcia protectora. Es tracta d'un projecte nacional de recerca finançat per l'Agència Estatal de Recerca (AEI).

Funcions i responsabilitats:

• Contribuir a les activitats científiques i tècniques de la Línia de Recerca en Tuberculosi, desenvolupades sota les condicions de bioseguretat adequades, incloent-hi el treball en instal·lacions de nivell de bioseguretat 3 (BSL-3) un cop completada la formació requerida.

• Coordinar i executar el treball experimental necessari per assolir les fites del projecte de recerca associat a la tesi doctoral de la persona candidata.

• Generar, analitzar i interpretar dades científiques, i contribuir als resultats de recerca del grup, incloent-hi la preparació de publicacions científiques.

• Presentar els resultats de la recerca en seminaris interns i en congressos científics nacionals i internacionals.

• Participar activament en les discussions científiques, les reunions del grup i les activitats de recerca col·laborativa.

• Fomentar el treball en equip i contribuir a un entorn de recerca col·laboratiu i multidisciplinari.

Requisits i experiència:

• Màster en ciències de la vida o titulació en Veterinària.

• Les persones candidates no poden estar ja en possessió d'un títol de doctorat (PhD).

• Domini de l’anglès

• Capacitat de treball en equip, adaptació a entorns multidisciplinaris i enfocament en el desenvolupament professional

Mèrtis addicionals

• Experiència de laboratori en tècniques d'immunologia, microbiologia i/o biologia molecular.

• Experiència en experimentació in vivo amb animals.

• Experiència o disposició per treballar en instal·lacions de nivell de bioseguretat 3 (BSL-3).

• Coneixements d'estadística i/o bioinformàtica.

• Es valorarà el coneixement del català i/o del castellà.
